Mike Nelson: The Coral Reef

"Hidden behind an unassuming door in a corner of Tate Britain, Mike Nelson's Coral Reef installation invites visitors to explore a parallel world."

The exhibition was not what I expected. The term coral reef is used to indicate a complex and fragile structure of belief systems that exist under our societies ocean. Each of the rooms you explore are representing a different belief system, for example the first we entered was an islamic cab office. These are some photos I'm not sure we were allowed to take but hey... the light was too good to resist.

I took part in an art sale my friend Emma organised as part of Kingston Carnival 2010 this summer. CACA stands for cheap and cheerful art and 14 students and graduates took part. I made small notebooks and packs of cards. Other participants sold prints, t-shirts and jewellery amongst other things.

We had to produce a new dictionary. I chose to use WW2 postal acronyms and catalogue them in they way they would have been used. I presented each one in an envelope. Inside I embroidered some onto handkerchiefs and some I wrote on the back of photographs from around the same era. some of the acronyms included 'HOLLAND- hope our love lasts and never dies' and 'MALAYA- my ardent lips await your arrival'.
